Now, Toyota has finally decided to give this flagship SUV a massive overhaul for the first time in a decade and a half. If you’re shopping for the best off-road SUV near Camden, SC, read on to check out all the sweet details of the all-new sixth-gen 4Runner.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Engines and Specs

Under the hood, we find two new available engine options to replace the 4.0-liter V6 from the last generation.

Here are the specs for the new 4Runner:

i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder:
  • 278 horsepower
  • 317 pound-feet of torque
  • 26 MPG highway
  • 6,000 pounds max towing
i-FORCE MAX 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with hybrid motor:
  • 326 horsepower (323 on Trailhunter)
  • 465 pound-feet of torque
  • 24 MPG highway
  • 6,000 pounds max towing
  • Standard 2,400-watt AC power supply in the cabin and cargo area
Both engines provide more power and better efficiency than the previous powertrain, giving off-road aficionados even more oomph with the same stellar standard of Toyota dependability.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Capability

Aside from the shiny new engine options, the new 4Runner has tons of awesome features and ways to customize your rig to suit your needs.

After selecting an engine, you’ll have a choice between one of three drivetrain systems—rear-wheel drive with a limited-slip differential, part-time 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, and full-time 4WD with a Torsen® limited-slip center diff.

The 4Runner is built on Toyota’s latest TNGA-F global platform, the same one used for the all-new Tacoma. This hardy platform is more rigid and durable than previous versions, and its aluminum construction cuts down on weight significantly.

Different available grades have their own uniquely tuned suspension. The TRD Off-Road gets Bilstein® monotube shocks, while the TRD Pro receives FOX® QS3 adjustable shocks with remote reservoirs, and the brand-new Trailhunter trim has Old Man Emu® shock absorbers with end stop control and remote reservoirs. Meanwhile, the Platinum and Limited grades get adaptive variable suspension for greater on-pavement comfort. All these individual setups give the top-level 4Runner grades distinctive feels.

Other available features include a Stabilizer Disconnect System, CRAWL Control low-speed cruise control, and Multi-Terrain Select with settings for Mud, Sand, and Dirt.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Interior and Tech 2025%20Toyota%204Runner%20Interior%20and%20Tech.jpg
Much like the previous generation, the 4Runner can be optioned with two rows to seat 5, or three rows to seat up to 7.
When they envisioned a new generation of 4Runner, the prime directive was to keep the features that earned it so many loyal fans while also updating it with modern features and technology. Classic features include the power rear window and tumble-folding rear seats, which allows for a ton of versatility in terms of storage.
Perhaps the biggest change to the interior is the leaps and bounds in infotainment options. Lower grades still get an 8.0-inch touch screen display, but the upper-level ones now get a massive 14.0-inch audio multimedia display. Both come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™, SiriusXM®, and compatibility with Toyota Connected Services including an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot.

Additional available features include a 14-speaker JBL sound system with portable Bluetooth speaker, wireless phone charging, DC auxiliary switches, an onboard air compressor, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with selectable displays.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Safety

Another area that’s massively upgraded in the 4Runner is the safety and driver assistance features. For the 2025 model, it now features the most up-to-date Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 package, which adds new features and improves upon existing ones.

TSS 3.0 features include:

  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control: Now includes a fourth following distance setting and smoother speed transitions thanks to better vehicle detection.
  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection: Includes better detection for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist: Now with corrective steering and enhanced lane detection.
  • Lane Tracing Assist: Monitors the driver’s actions to provide emergency assistance if the driver is unresponsive.
  • Road Sign Assist: Shows pertinent road sign information on the digital dash display for easier viewing.
  • Automatic High Beams: Adjusts the brights in real time by detecting oncoming traffic.
  • Proactive Driving Assist: A new feature for TSS 3.0, this feature enhances speed control with corrective braking when activated.
In addition, other available driver assistance tech includes Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitor.
